This landlord keeps mentioning that he is providing a service. He asks why the tenants has more rights. Well, the tenant is the customer and the old saying is "the customer is always right". The "customer" wants a comfortable home to rent, necessary repairs made, and to pay a fair price. If landlords ran any other business the way they run their rentals, they would lose customers and go broke. You want their money, you provide the service being paid for.

Drug dealers consider themselves business men as well. Doesn't make it morally right. Just because you are selling something others want, doesn't mean you shouldn't have empathy, reasonableness and a sense of looking after the welfare of your customer.

Good landlords should want to keep good tenants, because good tenants are hard to come by.

But the greedy landlords can make money as they don't need the customer, as they can just get in another customer to pay the higher rent instead.

Can some economist tell me why cars depreciate, and houses appreciate? Houses are being used, lived in, so suffer wear and tear like cars do. How does a house gain value when it is being used? Very few other things gain value like that. The longer a house is around, the cheaper it should get, as it is being used, lived in. Every time you drive a car it loses value, yet using a house gains it value. You might say, people renovate houses, adding to its value, but if you pimp your car and get it repaired and add new tyres and a new battery, it doesn't suddenly add value to it, it still depreciates. House prices are a rort.

People should go directly to the banks and pay mortgage and cut out the landlords.
